Snowbird Camps Promo
by Backcountry.comHigher education takes on a new meaning this winter as Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort launches a comprehensive new mountain education camp: Snowbird University.

Snowbird University combines the resort's popular Ski and Snowboard Steeps Camps into an event-packed, four-day program that includes new courses in Backcountry and Telemark, as well as electives such as a student re-creation of the Tram Off, classroom and on-mountain sessions with Nepalese Sherpas, GPS orienteering instruction, avalanche beacon drills in the new Rescue Trainging Center, yoga, Cliff Spa treatments, helicopter skiing and many other activities.
"Snowbird University brings together all of the resort's assets into a European-style camp where the students stay at the same lodge, eat together, ski together and learn together," said Snowbird Mountain School Director Maggie Loring.
Major courses will take place in the mornings followed by electives in the afternoon. A student will enroll in one course - Ski or Snowboard Steeps, Telemark or Backcountry - and will take classes in that major the entire four-day camp. Students will have the option of selecting other topics as their afternoon electives.
Snowbird University will take place Feb. 6-10, 2005 at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, located 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The camp fee, which includes four nights lodging, lift tickets, four breakfasts, four lunches, ground transfers, courses, electives, a welcome reception and graduation dinner, is $1285/person based on double occupancy. Locals' rates are available.
